Synopsis
António Ribeiro known as António Variações is one of the biggest names in Portuguese music. Much ahead of his time, he was a revolutionary in many senses but especially in the Portuguese music scene by mixing synthesisers in his pop music, influenced by folk music and culture. Born in 1944 in a small village at 12 he moved to Lisbon. At 20 he went to London to work and shortly after to Amsterdam where he was much influenced by the international scene. In 1978 he signed a music contract but only in 1982 he launched his first EP “Estou Além”. This was mainly because the label wasn't yet prepared to release Synth-Pop by then and were trying to get him to produce folk or pop. He died in 1984 shortly after he released his second album.
His music was described by himself has “located somewhere between Braga and New Iorque”
